Welcome to Mr. Martin’s 2010-2011 AP Human Geography course! My goal is to make this one of the most challenging yet rewarding courses of your high school career. There is no other course that I would rather teach! This course has the potential to change forever how you view and understand the world we live in.
AP Human Geography (affectionally known as APHUG) is about how where people live shapes how they live. In a sense, this course is very much like a virtual world tour – except we will not be merely tourists wandering around with fannypacks and cameras dangling from our necks, but rather we will become social scientists that examine how people actually live, and what factors contribute to make people both different from, and similar to each other. We will spend a great deal of time learning about the cultures and daily lives of people you probably didn’t even know existed – but they really do, and we will get to know them throughout this next school year. We will also spend the beginning of the year getting to know and understand the unique culture and history of Baltimore, and how living here has shaped your life and your perspective on the world.
